RainboWHAT? RainbowHat!
🌈RainbowHat is an initiative that promotes openness and equality in the cybersecurity community. It supports the creation of safe harbors for all people in cyber, embracing their views, their being and the lives they want to live. Look for the connection between the rainbow and the hat in the different colors and approaches in cyber (as much as I could piece it together).
Openness and equality are just as important in cyberspace as anywhere else! RainbowHat’s goal is to promote these values. Every time you see the RainbowHat’s Signs, you know you are welcome. If you support these values, embrace them, write about them, and share them.
Why did I start this initiative? There are many people in cybersecurity and IT in general who need to build trust in their environment, whether for a better workplace, the freedom to share their thoughts and feelings, or the courage to speak up in front of others. We simply live better in such environment. To achieve this, each of us must honor the values of accepting others as they are, along with their views. Furthermore, the community or company we belong to must also be committed to these values.
As individuals, just be yourself, as a society or company, be open and build a safe harbor. Let’s all be Rainbowhat and follow the RainbowHat Charter.
My part of the story
What made me do it? Working with cybersecurity people, of course. In my working career I have met many very talented and skilled professionals and people who were also very fragile and anxious. So, from the beginning, I have tried to create an environment where my colleagues felt safe and supported in their development and ideas. In the same way, I started building DCG420 and its MeetUps with my colleagues, which are based on trust and encoure openness, and where people should feel natural and comfortable.

What if Safe Harbor no longer shares the same values as RainbowHat Charter?
It just might happen that we go our separate ways. Both parties can take this step without giving reasons.
